DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL WELFARE AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT PERSONS WITH DISABILITY AT PIPIISO TO FORM AN ASSOCIATION

DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL WELFARE AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT PERSONS WITH DISABILITY AT PIPIISO TO FORM AN ASSOCIATION

The Department of Social Welfare and Community Development together with the community leaders at Pipiiso inaugurated Pipiiso Disability Association for Persons with disability in the community and the electoral area on 18th April 2023. The main purpose of the group was to identify a common interest and seek the assistance of the Assembly to provide them with equipment with the capacity to generate income for the group. This is intended to minimize the overdependency on the Assembly.

The group is made up of both disabled persons and parents of children with disabilities. The association will ensure that the group meets consistently to discuss common interests and provide necessary protection and support for each other.

In addressing the group, Mr. Issahaku Saani assured the support of the assembly and the Department to ensure the group functions and achieves its intended purposes. The group currently has seventeen (17) members with nine males and eight females.

Mr. Saani guided the group in developing a constitution and to develop a proposal to the Assembly for support through the Disability Fund. The group suggested the provision of sound systems for hiring as an alternative source of income to help develop their livelihood.

The Honorable Assembly member of Pipiiso who was elected to be the chairman of the Association commended the Department and assured Department of their commitment toward the development of persons with disability in the community. He assured the Department of their rapid response to applying for support as quickly as possible.
